Our world stopped turning...

This morning I awoke to the sounds of our favorite local radio station, just as I always do, and slowly into my consciousness came the memories of that day 8 years ago. On the radio there was a moment of silence -- dead silence -- as if someone had flipped the world's switch off. And then came Alan Jackson's song...

It might be that there are hundreds of posts like mine today. I haven't even checked. I remember exactly where I was on 9-11 -- what I was doing, why I turned the TV on, and then why I could not turn it off again.

Here is the song, just like I heard it this morning.

Hi there J
I always check Bloglines for your new entries and there must have been a glitch there because this post has been up for awhile!

9-11 ... yup, I know what I was doing also -- I was in a coffee shop with a client. There was a radio blaring out the headlines and everyone was aghast!

Barry, Coral, and I were in a hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, attending the National Quartet Convention. I got up first that morning. There were two TVs in our little apartment. Intending to wake Coral up so we could get the day going, I turned on the TV in the living area where she was sleeping on the pull-out couch. I could not believe what I was seeing! I thought at first that the pictures were of a terrible accident. But as I listened a few minutes, I realized that it was no accident, and I could hardly move. As soon as I could really grasp what was happening, I went into the little bedroom where Barry was still in bed and turned on the TV in there so that he could see what I was trying to tell him.

We arrived at the convention that day a lot later than we had planned, and there was much prayer that went up in that place for all the people involved. We just could not believe that this could really be happening in our country.

we will never forget and never give in to the forces of evil that would try to take our freedom away

Thank you for visiting and for your comment, David.

No, we must not forget. That is why I posted this song, because it reminds me of the terrible feelings of that day and, on the good side, the way we (at least for a time) were drawn together as a country.
