PICTURE OF THE DAY -- 07/21/2008
Roy
Last Friday, Barry, Gord, and Paula drove to Cheyenne, Wyoming, for Aunt Frieda's funeral. Barry's and Paula's mother comes from a large family, and Frieda is one of Mom's sisters. She and Roy were married for nearly 70 years, and Roy said that Friday was the saddest day for him so far.
It's hard to believe the man in this picture is old enough himself to have been married for nearly 70 years! I am so sorry for him and Ma Blue! Glad Gord and Paula were able to go to the funeral!
Let's see -- 70 years of marriage will put me well over a hundred! Nope -- I really don't think I'll make it!
I checked with Paula and Gord last night, and they said Frieda was 88 when she passed away, and he is probably a few years older. That makes him just about the same age as Mum, Carol-Ann. (If you click on the picture and look closer up, I think he looks about the same age as she does, a bit younger than they really are.) 91 - 70 = 21 Not too awfully young to be getting married, I guess, but for those of us who waited a bit longer, it's going to be well nigh impossible to match this.
Gord told me he has a plaque on his wall in honor of how many GALLONS of blood he has donated. In the middle of his obvious sadness, he was making sure that the family members who drove from afar had something to drink.
I look forward to 2 more chapters, Renae! I wasn't sure what you planned to do with the series. I have truly enjoyed the whole thing and been challenged by it, too. (Always a good thing.)

I am so sorry for this man. To lose your spouse after seventy years must be like losing your arm or leg, or your heart. My prayers are with him.
Jeanette, we have 2 more chapters in Esther. Please don't leave yet!
